A New Season

We went down the shore this weekend, to check on the yard and the new house.  We were pleasantly surprised. The grass was so green. The old house didn't fall down. Things were how we left them. Check out what it looked liked last year.

The front/side yard

We took the whole family including the new baby, Hunter.  Easton was so happy running around the yard.  Jovy and Rio went right back to the hole they were digging last year.  Terry and I walked around part of the property looking at the work we did and looking at the work that needs to be done.

While at the property, we talked with a neighbour.  He told us, someone came to him about the old house.  They wanted to know, if we would be interested in letting them tear the house down for the old wood. The house is over 100 years old.  I think we would be interested.  Hopefully our paths will cross again.

My Birthday

Last weekend we went down the shore for the first time in a long time. It was refreshing, peaceful and it was a reminder of our vision.  My birthday was Saturday and to celebrate my birthday I wanted to go and work on the property.  Nanny (my mil) came over in the morning to watch Easton and we headed out the door.

The piece I wanted to work on. It is a pile of dirt, weeds and broken glass

Up close picture. To the back, branches from a tree. To the left, all the stuff we picked up in the yard.

Our first stop was a combo stop.  Terry and Jovy were going in to Tims to pick up some hot chocolate, coffee and an ice cap for me. Me and Rio were went into Sobeys to find some lunch.  In Sobeys I started to feel sick, I am current about 16 weeks pregnant.  We went into the washroom and while waiting to see if it was a false alarm, Rio asks me "Why do you get sick mommy?" I answered with, "Mommy has a baby in her belly". Rio responded "Doesn't the baby know it is your birthday?"

Terry's project, trim a path towards the road.  This is the back of the house.

We got into a grove pretty easy.  The kids were playing and helping here and there.  They really liked my dirt pile and kept taking turns (unwilling) with the shovel. I ended up going low, gestational diabetes. I didn't bring anything with me, but luckily there is a store near by.  We all went and I got a regular pop.  I felt better and we got some more done.

The after pic of my dirt pile

A close up. We also moved the tree branches from the tall grass.

Terry's work, the start of the path

Terry at the beginning of the path, me at the new part.

The end of the day

With a quick drive to the beach before we drove back home.

My birthday supper choice was Scotts Skins from Joes.  It tasted so good after a day of work.

Our plan is to head back to the property next weekend.  So far the weather is looking good.

First Trip This Fall

 Fall time at the shore

It has been a few weeks since we went down the shore.  The summer had been very dry but the fall has been wet and dark.  Also, hockey has started back up.  Two kids in hockey means that we are at the arena four times a week, sometimes more.

Our trip down the shore this past Saturday, had been more to look around the property than to do lots of work.  Easton came with us for the first time.  He was asleep for the first 20 minutes but after he woke, he had a lot of fun.

The kids played in the leaves and in the hole they have been digging all summer long.  Easton loved walking all over the yard. Some of the ground is uneven, so he toppled over a few times.  But he would quickly get up and keep going where he wanted to go.

Terry found some bob wire in the tall grass. Rio watching.

On the way down, I thought to myself, I could never live down here.  It is too far from town.  But as our kids ran around and Terry talked showed the them where the cow use to be and the chickens had their coop, I thought maybe I could.

No Shore

This past weekend we didn't go to the Shore.  We went to a friends birthday party on Saturday and Sunday it rained.  It was nice to have a break.  This was the first weekend we had missed since the end of May.

The Begining

This is what it looked like when we went to the property in early May.

Front Yard

We went for the first time to do work on May 28th. You can read about it here. There was much more growth when we returned.

Weekend of the Buckle Fracture

Friday evening Rio hurt her arm.  It was a late night at the hospital, but we still went to the shore later in the afternoon on Saturday.  Rio decided to stay home.

We started focusing on the front of the property.
Starting at one corner and working our way to the other side of the property.
Lots of branches pick up and trimming.

We finished clearing the corner from last time. I would like to plant some trees next spring.

Jovy wanted me to take a picture of the biggest raspberry he found.

It is looking so much better

As we were tidying up, we heard thunder in the distance.  We have been working  really hard and it is showing. We are so excited to show the W's !

A Friday Visit

Friday we went down the shore instead of the usually Saturday. The forecast was calling for rain both Saturday and Sunday.  We made the call to go down Friday afternoon.  Terry took the day off and the older kids were at VBS.  Terry's mom (Nanny) came over to stay with Easton.

When we arrived, it was nice to see the side yard look like a yard.  We noticed Terry's friend, a good neighbour, cut up and moved the big tree trunk that was in front of the yard.  The good neighbour also took the cut down apple tree trunk and cut down another old apple tree.

We got out our tools like the trimmer, mower, rakes and buckets.  We added to our 'yard uniform' of sun screen, bug spray, hats and gloves.  It was kind of cloudy.  But very muggy.  Terry went straight to the trimming and mowing.  I went to clean up the left overs of the tree trunk.  Jovy and Rio went to play.

The after of what it looks like. Lots of branches to be moved.

We moved branches from an old apple tree that got cut down.

We worked as long as we could then we headed to the beach for a fire. It was one of the weekends when there wasn't a burning restriction.

We noticed the sun in a different position than the last time.

Tide coming in. Jovy by the water.
